On May 31st, I left for Training Camp. My flight to Georgia was at 6:00 a.m., which meant leaving my house at 3:00 a.m. to make it to the airport on time. Going into the trip, I was extremely nervous. Since I joined my team a little later than everyone else, I hadn’t been added to the group chat yet and honestly had no idea where I was supposed to meet everyone. I was stepping into the unknown with high hopes and complete trust that God would guide every step.My flight went smoothly, and I landed safely in Georgia. Once I arrived, I quickly realized I still had no clue where I was going or where to find my team. As I wandered through the airport, I got a little lost, but looking back now, I truly believe God had a purpose in that moment. Eventually, I found the correct shuttle and met a girl named Kendall. We started talking and discovered that we were both going on the exact same mission trip to the same country. What are the odds? It was one of those moments where you can clearly see God’s hand at work. I immediately got her number so we could reconnect after grabbing our luggage and find the rest of our team together. After what felt like a never-ending adventure involving three different baggage claim changes, I finally got my luggage. Kendall and I met up with the rest of the team at IHOP, where we spent time getting to know one another while waiting for our mission leaders to arrive. When they finally got there, we eagerly loaded onto the bus and headed to camp. I was still a little nervous, but the excitement was beginning to outweigh the fear. I couldn’t wait to meet the other teams and see what God had in store for the week ahead. As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed with open arms by the staff and volunteers. They showed us to the tents where we would be sleeping for the next week. I was excited because I’ve camped before, but there was one small surprise—the tents were set up on concrete because of all the rain that week! 😂 So yes, we spent the week sleeping in tents on concrete. Honestly, though, it turned out to be a humbling experience. Here in Jamaica, many people sleep on hard floors with far less than we have, and it gave me a greater appreciation for the blessings I often take for granted. As the week went on, our team grew incredibly close. I truly couldn’t have asked God for a better group of people to serve alongside. They constantly encouraged me, challenged me, and reminded me of God’s faithfulness. Together we experienced some things that were brand new for most of us—like taking bucket showers and doing bucket laundry! 😂 To wrap up Training Camp, we participated in Squad Wars, a giant relay competition where all the teams battled for the title of Squad Wars Champions of 2026. Can you guess who won? Yeah… not us. 😂But honestly, that didn’t matter. We laughed, worked together, cheered each other on, and made memories we’ll never forget. Most importantly, God was with us through every moment. Looking back on Training Camp, I’m so thankful for the friendships formed, the lessons learned, and the countless ways God showed up. If this was just the beginning, I can’t wait to see what He has planned for the rest of this journey.
